TxHIMA HIT Scholarship Award Winner and TxHIMA Recognition Awards Winners
The following winners were recognized at the TxHIMA Annual Convention on June 29, 2017.
Congratulations to the 2017 Winner of the TxHIMA HIT ScholarshipChristina TurriettaI am excited to continue my path to higher education. As technology changes health information management, the industry will need professionals who are ready to face the challenge. I have been in the field for seven years now and look forward to the rest of my career. I enjoy being a student just as much as I appreciate working in a department and being a teacher. As I gain experience throughout my journey, my skillset will continue to expand and I will be better prepared to share my knowledge with others. I love HIM because it is never stagnant and fulfills my desire to always learn new things. I enjoy having the responsibility of knowing and understanding the constant modifications in the field. I have had some amazing teachers who have helped shape who I am, both professionally and personally. It would be truly rewarding to be able to help shape the lives of my students as well as the future of our field. Being able to reach my goal of getting a Master’s in HIM will allow me to accomplish that. I look forward to what lies ahead for me as both a student and a teacher.
Congratulations to the 2017 Winners of the TxHIMA Recognition AwardsLegacy Award Winner: Jackie Moczygemba
Dear TxHIMA, I am honored and excited to receive the TxHIMA Legacy Award. My sincerest gratitude to the Texas Health Information Management Association and other colleagues who participated in the selection process. Receiving the TxHIMA Legacy Award would not be possible without the many people who supported me throughout my 35 year HIM career journey. In every position I have held, there was always someone willing to assist, mentor, and encourage me along the way. Please allow me to share a brief bio about my career. Ms. Jackie Moczygemba has been in the HIM profession since 1982. In addition to a BS and MBA from Texas State University, Ms. Moczygemba holds certification as a registered health information administrator and coding specialist. Ms. Moczygemba spent 12 years as a director of HIM services in an acute care hospital. She also has several years of experience in HIM consulting in long-term healthcare. Rising Star Award Winner: Rebecca JohnstonThroughout my life, I have always had an interest in healthcare and I knew that my career would somehow revolve around a health profession. In May 2017, I graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and will begin graduate school this fall. I was interested in the master’s program because it is one of the requirements to become a Fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (FAHIMA). These credentials are important because it identifies individuals who have contributed to the advancement of HIM. Thank you for helping TxHIMA recognize our members for these accomplishments!
